Suzanne Coullias, 72

 

  Suzanne S. Coullias, 71, died Thursday at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital in Harrodsburg as a result of an apartment fire.

 

  Coullias, originally from Gainesville, Fla., is best known for debuting CHLa La Success (BHF) to the show ring, winning the Two-Year-Old Fine Harness World’s Championship. The grand mare went on to win the three-year-old Fine Harness stake, the junior fine harness stake, and the Fine Harness World’s Grand Championship in 1979 and 1980 with Charles Crabtree.

 

 Born June 1, 1942, in Gainesville, Fla., she was the daughter of the late George Schenk and Susan Baldenelli. Coullias was a 1959 graduate of Gainesville High School. She was a member of the American Saddlebred Horse Association, Critters Without Litters Association and Mercer County Humane Society.

 

 Survivors include two sons, Steve (Aida) Coullias of Jacksonville and Nick (Karen) Coullias of Crystal River, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

 

  A “Gathering of Friends” will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Sims Funeral Services, Harrodsburg.
