Jeanette Heissler Durant, 89

Jeanette Heissler Durant, 89, an Illinois native, passed away peacefully September 10th. Arrangements are pending at this time. An Illinois native, she was a horsewoman and instructor. She is survived by daughters, Lynn Durant and Margaret (Neil) Koreman. Her daughters, Lynn and Margaret (Koreman); granddaughters, Julia and Olivia Koreman; along with many nieces and nephews who cherish her memory. Dick, her husband of 50 years preceded her in death in 2013. Her siblings Kitty, Lorraine, Ed and Joe also preceded her in death.

Jeanette and Dick along with their training and show stable were a stallwart for many years in the horse show world. The Durant Team as they were  known, put together many teams in the various American Saddlebred divisions at America’s top show and were also great supporters of the smaller shows in their home state of Illinois.

The Durants gave a number of young aspiring horsemen and women their start, by guiding them and always impressing the fact of educaton first. No one can take that from you.

They were inducted into the UPHA Hall of Fame in 2007 (photo), an honor so well deserved. They were also inducted into the Kentucky State Fair’s World’s Championship Horse Show Hall of Fame in 2000. Jeanette was honored with the Lurline Roth Sportsmanship Award by the ASHA in 2006.

Visitation was held Sunday, September 15 at Robert J. Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home in Orland Park, IL. Funeral was held at Our Mother of Good Counsel Church on Monday, September 16. Interment was private.
