Brenda Lichtenfels Spotts, age 68, of Chapel Hill Tn passed away Friday, November 7, 2014, in Chapel Hill, Tn. She was the daughter of the late Werner and Hazel Lee Lichtenfels of Kingsport, TN.
Brenda Lee Spotts (Lichtenfels) was born in Kingsport, TN on September 7th 1946. She started riding horses at a very early age. Brenda had her first American Saddlebred at the age of 12 that she trained and showed herself. She was mentored under June Graham, a local Saddlebred trainer in Kingsport, TN. She showed many horses during her high school years. While attending college at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, she met Harry Spotts Jr and Sr. Brenda and Harry were married a few years later. She continued to have an active interest in showing, while pursuing a career in education, and worked with Harry Spotts Sr at the training operation in Triune, TN. She showed many horses. but her favorite horse was the five-gaited gelding, Colonial’s Wildaire. Brenda also showed Chocolate Delight, a three gaited mare, Copper Coin’s Commander in Chief, and Star Gemini. She instructed equitation in Triune and Chapel Hill, TN, where she retired from teaching after 32 years. She continued her love of the American Saddlebred through private instruction and breeding Saddlebreds until cancer over-took her. She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, a retired school teacher and was active in the Chapel Hill community.
Brenda is survived by son, Harry (Kimberly) Spotts III of Haughton, LA, two sisters Barbara Spangler of Knoxville, TN. and Linda Brock of Pelham, GA, a step daughter Elizabeth Roberts of Decatur, GA., and numerous neices and nephews.
Visitation was held November 9, burial November 10, 2014, officiated by Rev. Joe Wiggins.
